Ive successfully rooted Nougat on a 2015 and 2017 model. The odd issue though when attempting to run Adaway is that it fails to copy the Hosts file to the System folder – Root was successful on both devices.

In order to get it to copy correctly, I had to install Busybox and Material Terminal, then mount the System as Read Write and was able to get Adaway to copy the hosts file. Cheers

  3. I am trying to root my 16gb shield with Nougat 7 from “Tutorial: Root Shield Android TV (2015; 16GB) (Nougat)” listed above. I get through part 1 under Root Procedure but never see a yellow (!) anywhere in device manager or anything about Fastboot. I followed instructions exactly except for usb mouse being wireless. What is wrong?

So users with a rooted OTA 3.3 Shield TV can’t just download the ota update regularly, and then just re root afterwards or will you have to start from scratch again unlocking the bootloader after installing Nougat? I’m a little confused. Or is some kind of rooted tutorial update for 3.3 rooted users in the making?
